Get Paid to Train
You don’t have to spend years in school just to become a plumber.
In Arkansas, you can become a licensed plumber by first becoming an apprentice through a plumbing company. The apprenticeship program is the perfect option if you still need to make a living while learning the skills needed to become a Journeyman or Master Plumber.
Apprenticeship programs take between 4 to 5 years before you can take your Journeyman’s exam and become a full working licensed plumber.
It takes a lot of time and hard work to become a Master Plumber, but once you get there, you’ll see just how much money you can make in this fun and much-needed field.
What is an Apprentice Plumber?
Once hired by a local company, they will enroll you in the JAPA Plumbing School. You will attend a four-hour class on Monday evenings and a few Wednesday evenings from August through May until you have completed 640 hours of classroom training.
You will work under a Journeyman or Master Plumber for 8000 hours. During this time, they will be training you on the job.
After completing your classroom and on-the-job training hours, you will go to Little Rock to take the Journeyman Plumber Test. Once you have passed the exam, you will be licensed to work on your own in Arkansas.
After one year of being a Journeyman Plumber, you can return to Little Rock to take the Master Plumber Exam.
